- Story Text: The Ivory Coast's Public Works and Transport Minister Desire Boni on Tuesday (8 October) opened a four-day conference of the West and Central Africa Ports Management Association in Abidjan.
It's the third conference of its kind, and delegates will study problems of port requipment, dredging, goods transit form landlocked countries and port safety measures.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Boni said it was urgent for the Association to lower the freight costs and open their ports more widely to landlocked African countries.
Fifteen African member states have representatives at the conference. And on their agenda is the application for membership by a sixteenth country -- Zaire.
