- Story Text: The Gabonese Navy has acquired its second patrol boat from France, and on Monday (March 6th) she arrived at Abidjan, capital of the Ivory Coast, to pay a courtesy call. The ship has been named "President Albert Bernard Bongo" after the Gabonese President.
With a French light escort ship, the "Effronte", the "President Bongo" left her port in France on February 15th. She has called at Spanish, Moroccan and Canary Island ports, and at Dakar in Seneal, on her way to the Ivory Coast; and will go on to Cotonou in Dahomey, and Douala in Cameroun, before reaching Libreville in about ten days' time.
SYNOPSIS: A new patrol boat for the Gabonese Navy has arrived in Abidjan, in the Ivory Coast, to pay a courtesy call. She was bought in France, and, with a French warship as escort, she's on her way from her home port to Libreville, to be handed over in about ten days' time.
The ship is commanded by a French officer, but fifteen of her crew of nineteen are Gabonese. She's been named "President Albert Bernard Bongo" after the President of Gabon.
The ship's four day visit to Abidjan has been arranged to mark the friendship between Gabon and the Ivory Coast. She will go on to Dahomey and Cameroun.
