- Story Text:Airports across Mexico experienced widespread chaos for passengers and airlines alike on Friday (July 19) after a severe global technology outage disrupted operations across multiple airports.
A software update by global cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike affected essential systems, including flight check-in and baggage handling, which led to major flight delays and cancellations.
Hundreds of tourists at the airport in the southeastern Mexican resort city of Cancun crowded at airline counters to get information about their flights.
At Benito Juarez International Airport in Mexico City, long lines were seen in front of the counters of the most important airlines. Travelers said that most flights were canceled and did not know when they would be rescheduled.
The airport authorities asked passengers to keep in touch with their airlines to find out the status of their flights.
Air passengers worldwide faced delays, cancellations, and problems checking in as airports and airlines were caught up in a massive IT outage that affected industries ranging from banks to media companies.
