- Story Text: A team of athletes representing Ghana's Armed Forces beat their counterparts from the Ivory Coast by 93 points to 75 when they met in a hard-fought athletics meeting at Nicholson stadium, Accra on Saturday.
Ghana dominated the track events throughout the meeting. One outstanding performance came from Sergeant Addy, the Ghanaian team captain, who won the hundred yards sprint in nine-point-eight seconds.
But the Ivory Coast Armed Forces were masters of the field events. The high jump was easily won by Amafou Camille with a leap of six feet, three inches. In the pole vault, Lance-Corporal Gneplou, of the Ivory Coast cleared twelve feet, ten inches to win the event. But the only record of the day went to Aye Abasse of the Ivory Coast with a throw of 218 feet, one inch in the javelin.
Before the match began, both teams were introduced to Air Vice Marshal Otu, Chairman of the Ghana Armed Forces Sports Control Board.
Later, Ghana's Armed Forces teams also won boxing and soccer matches against Ivory Coast Armed Forces teams.
