- Story Text: India opened the doors to the first-ever Olympic India House, at the Paris Olympics, with an eye on hosting its own Games in the near future.
India House was inaugurated on Saturday (July 27) in a colourful event filled with music, dance, food and art from the South Asian country.
Nita Ambani, chairperson and founder of the Reliance Foundation which worked with the Indian Olympic Association to make India House a reality, made no secret that she hopes the Olympics will one day be hosted in an Indian city.
Ambani, a member of the International Olympic Committee, said India House should serve the collective “Indian dream” to host the Olympics.
“The day is not far when India will host the Olympic Games. May this be our collective resolve at the opening of the India House,” Ambani said.
India has officially bid to host the 2036 Games with Ahmedabad the likely proposition to be host city.
Other bids include Istanbul, Turkey, Santiago, Chile, and Nusantara, Indonesia, with additional bids possibly coming from Qatar, Saudi Arabia and South Korea among others.
Also present at the launch party was FIFA President Gianni Infantino who said he was there “to bring football to India and India to football,” as FIFA looks to spread soccer more in the Asian giant.
Guests in Paris for the Olympics need only pay a 5€ cover to access India House which is located in Prairie du Cercle Nord Park in northern Paris.
