- Story Text:Pro-Palestinian protesters in Turkey's southeastern province of Batman damaged a Starbucks cafe late on Wednesday (July 31), during a protest over the assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Western brands have been hit by a largely spontaneous, grassroots boycott campaign over Israel's military offensive in the Gaza Strip prompted by the deadly Hamas attack in southern Israel on Oct. 7.
In the wake of the boycotts, Starbucks in October said it was a non-political organisation and dismissed rumours it had provided support to the Israeli government or army.
A group of protesters gathered in Batman on Wednesday evening to rally against Haniyeh's killing, Turkish media said.
The protesters threw chairs and tables in the outside seating area of the cafe at the store's windows, video obtained by Reuters showed.
Thousands of people marched in Istanbul and elsewhere in Turkey on Wednesday to protest Haniyeh's killing.
