- Story Text: A West German delegation of five led by the Deputy Minister of Cooperation, Frau Brigitte Freyh, paid an unofficial visit last Saturday (20 March) to a pineapple cooperative at Bonoua, 50 miles (80 Kms) from Abidjan, in the Ivory Coast. The delegation is returning to West Germany from Cameroun.
SYNOPSIS: Local chiefs in Bonoua, 50 miles from Abidjan, the capital of the Ivory Coast, are waiting for the arrival of a delegation from West Germany. This is pineapple cooperative.
First out of the car--the West German Ambassador, Herr Hassler. Behind him is Frau Brigitte Freyh, the head of the five-man delegation, and the Deputy Minister of Development. The pineapple cooperative, which has a labour force of 200, has eight technical assistants from West Germany. After their welcome, the delegation was taken on a tour of the cooperative, which produces 40,000 tons of pineapples per year. It covers 4,000 acres.
On their tour of the fields, the delegation was accompanied by the Ivorian Minister of State, M. Mathieu Ekra.
All the pineapples produced here are sent for canning to a nearby factory. The factory is also run with West German technical assistance. From here, the delegation returned to Bonn.
