- Story Text: Air Afrique took delivery of its first Douglas DC-10 jumbo jet on Saturday (3 March).
The green-and-white jet carrying a passenger complement of airline executives and Government officials as well as selected news representatives landed at Abidjan airport after its inaugural flight from the United States.
The Director-General of Air Afrique, Mr. Cheick Fall and the Ivory Coast Minister of Air Transport, Mr. Grah Kadji held a brief news conference when the new aircraft landed and said it would contribute to the social and economic development of Africa, and to the unity of the continent.
The new DC-10 joins Air Afrique's Fleet of five Douglas DC-8's, two Caravelles and one Douglas DC-3.
It has facilities to carry 22 first class passengers and 249 tourist class passengers; it can carry 295 all-economy passengers, or 380 so-called 'high density' passengers.
SYNOPSIS: Air Afrique took delivery of its biggest jet aircraft on Saturday when its new Douglas DC-Ten Jumbo Jet landed at Abidjan Airport.
Crowds of people were at the airport to see the big green-and-white tri-jet touch down after its inaugural flight from the United States.
Air Afrique becomes the first airline to use these mass-passenger jets over the African air transport network. It joins the airline's fleet of five DC-Eights, two Caravelles and one DC-Three.
Two of the passengers on this special flight were the Director-General of Air Afrique, Mr. Cheick Fall, and the Ivory Coast Minister of Air Transport, Mr. Grah Kadji.
