- Story Text:“Pacific Rim Uprising” actor Cailee Spaeny said on Wednesday (August 14) it was a "great honour" to be a part of the popular “Alien” franchise, with her new Disney movie “Alien: Romulus”.
Spaeny, who plays the main protagonist, Rain Carradine, said she has "such respect" for the films and the filmmakers that made them possible.
“Alien: Romulus,” which begins its global cinematic rollout on August 14, is a standalone film that takes place between the events of the 1979 “Alien” movie and the 1986 “Aliens” film.
The science-fiction horror film follows a group of young scavengers who enter a derelict space station, looking for pods that could help them get to a new planet, and ultimately a better life.
However, they are soon hunted and attacked by vicious xenomorphs, the black antagonist aliens famously known within the “Alien” franchise.
Box Office Pro predicts that "Alien: Romulus" will have an opening of $35 million to $50 million.
"Romulus" director and writer Fede Alvarez said it was a "dream come true" to work with Ridley Scott, director of the original "Alien" film and two others in the franchise, and get his tick of approval.
"lt's all a director wants, to sit down with him and chat. He has so much wisdom that man, and so much knowledge about film that it's been a privilege," Alvarez said.
British actor Archie Renaux, who plays a scavenger named Tyler, said "Alien: Romulus" will transport viewers back to the film's original formula. "I think fans are going to love it," he said.
