- Story Text:Mango production in Egypt this season increased sharply compared to previous years due to higher temperatures from climate change, with expectations for record yields and lower prices.
In Ismailia, one of the most famous mango-growing regions, workers were busy harvesting the fruits from the trees, packing them into baskets, and transporting them to storage areas for either domestic or international export.
According to Ramadan Ahmed Mahmoud, the owner of one of the farms, people have been working extensively from the beginning of the season until now, with the expectation that it will end quickly this year due to high demand and increased production.
Egyptian mango farms are considered among the best in the world, serving as a key strategic export crop.
The current season has prompted the cultivation of larger quantities and new foreign mango varieties that have proven successful in Egypt, Agricultural engineer Sameh Hussein, told Reuters, leading to higher production, lower costs, and more favorable prices, he added.
The mango season in Egypt runs from July to September each year, with this year’s production expected to be promising, in contrast to previous years due to weather challenges.
