- Story Text: Dramatic bodycam video captured the moment a mother was rescued from her submerged vehicle in Orange, Texas, after her 12-year-old son alerted a nearby police officer.
The incident began when Officer Chuck Cobb of the West Orange Police Department noticed a child running down a highway on July 24. The child, 12-year-old Dwight, informed Officer Cobb that his mother, Jonquetta Winbush, had suffered a seizure and accidentally drove their vehicle into a nearby pond. The daughter, 16-year-old Bri-Asia, had unsuccessfully tried to get her mother out.
Officer Cob told Reuters on Thursday (August 15) he was joined by civilians Epi Munguia and Corey Bull and together they broke the car windows to access the vehicle. Back on dry land, he administered CPR to save Ms. Winbush's life.
According to reports, Winbush' is getting stronger and now breathing on her own after being on a ventilator.
Later, at the hospital, Ms. Winbush expressed her gratitude to Officer Cobb, stating, "We're family now."
