With the smell of hay heavy in the air, the residents of rural Pennsylvania's Fulton County are not sharing in the much publicized 'joy' of the Democratic National Convention.
Back in 2020, Trump won over six of every seven voters in the south central Pennsylvania county located along the Maryland border, making it the site of the widest margin for Trump in the crucial battleground. While the state is primed to once again be pivotal in the 2024 election, Fulton residents have been unswayed by the ongoing DNC in Chicago.
"I've got better things to do than, you know, watch people be joyful and, 'stay woke.' I mean, come on," said Mark Miller, a co-owner of the Politically Incorrect novelties store. "I can get summaries and information from different sources without even having to watch the convention."
For some Fulton county residents, the Democratic platform and agenda stokes real fear.
"If you take a stand against something, say for instance, homosexuality… you're the bad person for having morals," said Jodi Parry, a Fulton County resident.
"I support Trump and I love Trump. I like what he did when he was president. And, I agree with what he stands for," she said.
After assuming the Democratic candidacy, Kamala Harris has seen a boost in the polls and enthusiasm. At the same time, one-time frontrunner Trump has found himself waging battles on racial matters and crowd size.
But for the residents of Fulton County, Trump is still riding high.
"I think he's got answers for some of the problems he's laid out. I like his vice presidential candidate also. They're both flawed individuals, which makes them Americans," said Steve Seman, Miller's business partner.
