- Story Text: President Houphouet Boigny of the Ivory Coast arrived in Bonn today (Wednesday) for an eight-day State Visit to West Germany. The President, who has been staying privately in Bavaria since last Saturday, will have talks with Government leaders before touring major West German cities to meet businessmen and industrialists.
A 21-gun salute boomed across the flag-decked Bonn Airport as the Ivory Coast President stepped down from his plane to shake hands with President Heinrich Luebke of West Germany. After inspecting a 300-man Army and Navy Guard of Honour lined up on the tarmac, President Houphouet Boigny drove with President Luebke to the Petersberg Hotel, where he'll stay for the next few days.
The Ivory Coast leader -- who is accompanied by his wife -- had lunch with Chancellor Kurt Georg Kiesinger as his first official engagement. Chancellor Kiesinger had earlier been at the airport along with four other Cabinet Ministers to see President Houphouet Boigny arrive -- interrupting a crucial budget meeting of the Cabinet to do so.
After lunch, the Ivory Coast leader called on President Luebke at the Villa Hammerschmidt. This evening, he is the dinner guest of the West German President.
President Houphouet Boigny will start fullscale political talks with the West German Government tomorrow. Officials in Bonn stress that there are no problems clouding the West German--Ivory Coast horizon. The main topic in discussions on bilateral relations is expected to be the Ivory Coast's wish for increased trade and private investment.
The Ivory Coast President is on a month-long visit to Europe.
