- Story Text: A trade agreement between the Ivory Coast and Taiwan was signed in Abidjan on Wednesday (10 April). Under the terms of the agreement, goods will be made from Ivory Coast bamboo and rattan by Taiwanese craftsmen and exported to Europe, particularly to the Common Market countries. The agreement is part of a wider co-operative agreement between the two countries.
The Taiwanese mission arrived in the Ivory Coast on Wednesday, 5 April. Since then they have been having talks with government officials and Ministers as well as industrialists. Mr. Jackson Wu, an industrialist, headed the Taiwanese group, and Mr. Bernard Joei, their ambassador to the Ivory Coast, acted as their host.
Wednesday's agreement was signed at the Ministry of Tourism in Abidjan. The Ivory Coast's Minister of State for Tourism, M. Mathieu Ekra, and Taiwanese ambassador Joei signed the document on behalf of their countries.
In a speech after the ceremony, Ambassador Joei spoke of the agreement as being a "modest contribution" to co-operation between the two nations.
