  • Story Text: Popstar Mariah Carey's mother and sister both died on the same day over the weekend, according to multiple media reports.
    In a statement Carey said that her ''heart is broken'' at losing her mother - Patricia, adding that ''in a tragic turn of events''' her sister Alison ''lost her life on the same day''.
    The 55-year-old Grammy award winner didn't give any details on the cause of their deaths in the statement published by U.S. outlet People and many others.
    "I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time," Carey said in the statement.
    Carey, who is one of the world's best-selling singers, reportedly wrote about her complex relationship with her opera singer mother in her 2020 memoir "The Meaning Of Mariah Carey".
