The Virgin of Regla, also known as Yemaya, is the patron saint of Regla and regarded in Cuba as the goddess of the sea and maternity.
The term Yemaya traces its roots to Africa and arrived to Cuba during the slave trade. The port of Regla is named after the Spanish port city of the same name.
