- Story Text: Fans in Manchester and Madrid gave their reaction to the news that Manchester United have accepted a world record bid of 80 million pounds ($131.7 million) from Real Madrid for Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo on Thursday (June 11).
United, who fended off the Spanish club's interest in the World and European Player of the Year 12 months ago, have given the nine-times European champions the go-ahead to talk to him.
"Get rid of him. Because you can get three better players, let him go, he wants to go there it obvious. We can get three better players," one United fan" said.
"Nobody is bigger than this club, this is the biggest club in the world mate. Others have tried it through the years but nobody is bigger than this club," he added.
Should Real complete the signing of the 24-year-old it would seal a remarkable double for the Spanish giants who snapped up Brazilian playmaker Kaka from Milan this week for a fee reported to be around 68 million euros.
Kaka was the first player to be signed since Florentino Perez returned to the presidency this month and Real Madrid appear intent on continuing their spending spree.
But some fans in Madrid were less than impressed this morning, "the signings of Ronaldo and Kaka are terrible, those in powerful positions are selling to the highest player, and those of us who watch football end up paying for it, we have so many players here that are as good as him. We should be signing them instead of lining the pockets of foreign players" one fan told Reuters. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
