- Story Text: The Line Fire in Southern California was only 3% contained on Monday (September 9) as firefighters continued to work during the heatwave in the area.
Arnold Menjivar, from Redondo Beach Fire Department told Reuters "The weather, we've had a significant weather now for the last three days, into the fourth day, reaching triple digits. Saturday and Sunday we had thunderstorms form over the fire itself and even though we did have some rainfall over the fire, it creates erratic winds, which, in turn, spread embers and make the fire grow."
The fire is spread over 23,600 acres in San Bernardino County, with numerous areas being evacuated.
"As far as damage to homes, we've been very fortunate. The firefighters have put some aggressive work and some aggressive lines onto the fires, a lot of support from the air with our helicopters and our airships. No homes have been damaged or destroyed which is a very good thing," said Menjivar.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
