- Story Text: The death toll from Wednesday's (September 18) device blasts in Lebanon has risen to 25, Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad announced on Thursday (September 19) during a press conference in Beirut.
Abiad reported that 608 people were injured in Wednesday's blasts, which occurred when hand-held radios used by the armed group Hezbollah detonated across southern Lebanon.
The explosions marked the deadliest day in the country since cross-border fighting began between militants and Israel nearly a year ago. The previous day's explosions, involving the group's pagers, resulted in a death toll of 12, including two children, and nearly 3,000 injuries.
Israeli officials have not commented on the blasts, but security sources indicate that Israel's spy agency, Mossad, may be responsible. One Hezbollah official described the incident as the largest security breach in the group's history.
