- Story Text: Apple enthusiasts in India’s financial hub Mumbai cheered as they entered the store to get their hands on the new iPhone 16 series on Friday (September 20), the day of its commercial release in the country.
One eager customer, Ujjawal Shah, said he had queued for 21 hours to be the first person in the store. “I have never been this excited in my life," he said.
The base model in India is currently priced at 79,900 rupees (USD 956) with the Pro variant selling for 119,900 rupees (USD 1,435).
Apple unveiled the long-awaited, artificial intelligence-boosted series on September 9 and promised improvements in its Siri personal assistant as it rolled out new software.
India has been an important market for the company as its domestic sales jumped 33% to a record of almost $8 billion in the country through March 2024, according to media reports.
