- Story Text: Locals and tourists gathered in Barcelona to experience a fiery spectacle during the 2024 edition of La Mercè Festival.
Held along Passeig de Gràcia, near Gaudí's iconic La Pedrera, the event featured a thrilling procession of devils and fire-breathing creatures, filling the streets with dazzling pyrotechnics and lively performances.
The parade, known as El Correfoc, symbolized the dramatic "opening of the gates of hell" as fiery dragons, devils, and beasts lit up the night. As the fireworks subsided, the fire creatures continued their energetic dance down Passeig de Gràcia, mesmerizing thousands of spectators with their displays of light and fire.
First introduced in 1979, the Correfoc has become one of the signature events of La Mercè, showcasing Catalonia's folk culture. It now attracts visitors from around the world, becoming a highlight of Barcelona's annual Fiesta Mayor.
