- Story Text: Hundreds of people thronged India's southern Kerala state to watch the 70th edition of the iconic Nehru Trophy Boat Race on Saturday (September 28).
Boat rowers were seen vigorously rowing their boats in a race to the finish line, in one of the largest boat races in the world.
The traditional snake boat race has been held in the backwaters of Alappuzha in coastal Kerala for the last 72 years. It is a highly anticipated celebration for locals and tourists alike.
The annual event, usually held in August, draws thousands of local and foreign spectators who come to see the participants rowing long snake-shaped boats in the waterbody. The tournament was delayed this year due to the deadly rain-triggered landslides that struck the southern state in August. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
