- Story Text: Hindus across India thronged jewellery stores on Tuesday (October 29) to mark the gold-buying festival of 'Dhanteras'.
"It is a grand festival and we are seeing a record-breaking business today. People are buying coins and other items, including big jewellery sets," said Kumar Jain, a member of the India Bullion and Jewellery Association.
Elated customers were seen trying on jewellery, purchasing ornaments made of metal to mark the celebrate the auspicious festival.
Men and women observe the festival by purchasing coins, biscuits, rings, and chains made of gold and silver among others.
According to Hindu tradition, buying expensive metals on this day helps foster prosperity for the days to come.
'Dhanteras' is the Hindu festival of gold which also marks the first day of the biggest Hindu festival of Diwali.
