- Story Text: U.S. Senator Ted Cruz secured his reelection on Tuesday (November 5), celebrating his victory in Houston with supporters. In his acceptance speech, Cruz reinforced his campaign slogan, "Keep Texas, Texas," emphasizing continuity in the state's political landscape.
“Tonight is an incredible night. A huge victory here in Texas,” Cruz said.
Cruz congratulated his Democratic opponent U.S. Representative Colin Allred in his victory speech at the Mariott Marquis hotel in downtown Houston, Texas.
With about 90% of precincts reporting, Cruz held a nearly double-digit lead over Allred to win his third term.
Several Cruz supporters at the event named border protection among their top priorities.
“For me, it’s protection of the border and just making sure that we’re able to keep our borders safe,” said Ken Boswell, a 56-year-old IT manager from Houston.
Gregory Neal, a 47-year-old oil and gas professional from Houston, said the state of the economy was also his top issue.
“The economic forecast and situation we find ourselves in is abominable,” Neal said.
