- Story Text: Latino business owners in Las Vegas, Nevada, say the look forward to the next four years under Trump after the former President Donald Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris to become the 47th President of the United States.
Many Latino voters in Clark County turned out for the 2024 Presidential Election with plenty of support for the Republican nominee. Just outside the Las Vegas strip, several Latino business owners at the Charleston Indoor Swap Meet said they have struggled economically in recent years and welcomed the change of power.
For Maria Stockdale, originally from Sonora, Mexico, the economy and spending power were top of mind to keep her business afloat.
Other local business owners in the predominately Latino community echoed Stockdale’s sentiment. Lolis Macedo added that despite the immigrant rhetoric, feels the former President will be different the second time around.
The mother of six told Reuters all of her children voted for Trump and convinced her he was the better candidate for the economy.
But not all were convinced Trump was the best choice for the Latino community in Nevada.
“It's going to come back and bite us. People think they're safe because they voted for a gringo(anglo), and they feel safe? They're not safe.”
