- Story Text:California governor Gavin Newsom unveiled a $58 billion investment plan for the Central San Joaquin Valley on Thursday (November 21) at a press conference in Fresno, a county that voted for Trump in the presidential election.
Newsom said the plan known as the Jobs First Initiative, aims to revitalize the Central San Joaquin Valley by focusing on job creation, economic development, and regional collaboration.
According to Newson, the initiative is expected to generate nearly $100 billion in economic impact and create 138,000 new jobs in the region.
Newsom took the opportunity to talk about how he said former President Trump’s policies had harmed the region in the past, particularly around issues of infrastructure funding.
“He took $1,000,000 of your high speed rail money. Same time he tried to take your crime grants,” Newsom said.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to the Central Valley amid political divides.
“I care about Trump supporters. I care about RFK Jr supporters. I care about Tucker Carlson supporters. I care about Charlie Kirk supporters. I care about Ben Shapiro supporters. I care about all people,” he said.
The state has already invested $14 million to jumpstart the plan’s implementation, with $120 million in competitive grants slated for release in January 2025.
