- Story Text: An exhibition in Helsinki exhibits murals painted by Finnish writer and artist Tove Jansson long before she became famous for her Moomin creations, with paintings originally made for public buildings.
The exhibition 'Tove Jansson: Paradise' at the Helsinki Art Museum showcases Jansson's commissioned works for public spaces from the 1940s and into the 1950s.
A curator at the museum, Heli Harni, said Jansson’s goal was to create joy and give people stories and fairy tales during World War Two.
Around 180 pieces of work, including never-before-seen sketches, are displayed on two floors.
Jansson, who died in 2001, is most known for her world-famous Moomins and in 2025, the 80th anniversary of the publishing of “The Moomins and the Great Flood” will be celebrated.
The exhibition will run until early April next year.
