STEVE HAS FIGURED OUT A WAY WITH THIS SCRIPT TO GET TWO DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSED PEOPLE IN THE SAME CAR WHO DON'T WANNA BE TOGETHER THAT DESPISE EACH OTHER BUT HAVE TO BE TOGETHER. - Story Text: Fresh from his highly successful directorial debut "Dead Man Walking", Tim Robbins has branched out in a new direction, starring opposite controversial comic Martin Lawrence in the comedy "Nothing to Lose." Robbins plays Nick Beam, a man with a seemingly-perfect life, perfect job and a beautiful wife played by Kelly Preston. But when he comes home early one day and finds her in bed with his lecherous boss, played by Michael McKean, his life falls apart and he aimlessly drives off in his car.
Enter T. Paul, a down-on-his luck unemployed family man played by Lawrence.
T. Paul, short for Terrence, has turned to robbery and car-jacking to make ends meet for his wife and two children. But when he jumps into Nick's car on the worst day of his life, he gets more than he bargained for.
Events take an unexpected twist when Nick kidnaps Terrence and drives him out to the middle of the Arizona desert. There, the two men who couldn't be more different, forge an unlikely friendship and plot their ultimate crime: stealing the secret treasure of Nick's boss.
The film's director is Steve Oedekerk, whose previous credits include directing the Jim Carrey sequel "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls" and writing its predecessor "Ace Ventura, Pet Detective," the film that launched Carrey's phenomenal movie career. Oedekerk also has a cameo role in the film, playing a bizarre security guard with a penchant for disco dancing during his rounds.
Robbins is most-recently known for writing and directing "Dead Man Walking," starring Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon. Sarandon, who is Robbin's wife, won an Oscar for her performance. Robbins was nominated for Best Director.
His other films in front of the camera include "The Shawshank Redemption," "The Player," "The Hudsucker Proxy," and "Cadillac Man," co-starring Robin Williams.
Lawrence also recently turned to writing and directing. His debut behind the camera was the black comedy "A Thin Line Between Love and Hate." His other film credits include "Bad Boys" with Will Smith and "Boomerang" with Eddie Murphy.
On television, Lawrence starred in the long-running hit Fox comedy series "Martin," for which he was also executive producer, winning many awards.
Most recently, though, Lawrence has been in the news for his activities off the set. In May 1996, police in Sherman Oaks, California forcibly subdued him when he was ranting "fight the power(" in a busy intersection with a loaded gun in his pocket.
Last August he was arrested at Burbank Airport for carrying a loaded revolver. This January Tisha Campbell, his "Martin" co-star, filed a suit alleging sexual harassment and refused to appear in intimate scenes with him. And in March, he was arrested after a man said the star punched him inside a Hollywood nightclub.
Lawrence and Robbins joined the film's cast and crew in Los Angeles on July 8 for its world premiere.
