- Story Text: Ahmed Ben Bella, who passed away aged 96 on Wednesday was buried Friday (April 13) afternoon at the Martyrs Square of El-Alia Cemetery in Algiers.
The current President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, was present to see the first president of independent Algeria laid to rest The funeral procession journeyed to El-Alia Cemetery, where the coffin of the deceased's body, draped in the national flag, was prayed over and then placed by its grave by members of the People's National Army (ANP). Bella was then put into his grave by firefighters.
The prayer was conducted by Mohamed Cherif Abbas, the Minister of Mujahideen (liberation war veterans). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
