Summary:On September 18 1970, Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir arrived in Washington for talks with President Nixon. A month earlier, an official ceasefire had come into operation between Israel and Egypt, but the Israelis accused the Egyptians of violating it and installed Soviet missiles. To counter this threat, Mrs. Meir was reported to have asked the United States to supply military equipment to a value of 2,000 million dollars.
