- Story Text: The Adriatic town of Pula in northern Croatia lit up its ancient Roman amphitheatre in festive Christmas spirit on Friday (December 12), transforming the historic site into a bustling ice rink.
The amphitheatre, the only one of its kind to have all four sides entirely preserved, has morphed from a venue of gladiator battles to an event venue with an ice rink for the Christmas season.
Event organizer Tanja Milicic said a project was made possible thanks to the conservators and the Archaeological Museum and added that the event would allow citizens to walk into the Arena and enjoy the Advent atmosphere in the city's most famous building.
Amidst the illuminated Roman chariot decorations and antique arches, some visitors were eager to test their ice-skating skills, while others were content to enjoy the spectacle of lights and sights filling the amphitheatre.
