- Story Text: Tunisia will not demand that Saudi Arabia hands over the the north African country's ousted autocratic leader Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali, Prime Minister Hamadi Al Jebali said on Sunday (February 19).
Ben Ali and his wife, Leila Trabelsi, have been in Saudi Arabia since fleeing there a year ago but Jebali told a news conference in the Saudi capital Riyadh that Tunisia saw its diplomatic relationship with Saudi Arabia as more important than achieving his extradition.
"Saudi Arabia is a strategic corner of our foreign policy and we are not willing to sacrifice this goal for other reasons such as this one you mentioned," said Jebali when asked by a journalist if he would call for the return of the man who ruled Tunisia for 23 years.
Jebali is on a two day visit to Saudi Arabia to meet key Saudi leaders and businessmen. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
