Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva surprised doctors and the media in Sao Paulo on Sunday (December 15) by turning up at a new conference about the leader's health.
It was his first public appearance since he underwent a pair of emergency surgeries last week to treat and prevent bleeding in his head.
As one of the medical team was talking to journalists the 79-year-old leftist leader entered the room, greeted people and put his thumbs up before sitting down to speak for the first time since the surgery.
In brief remarks, an upbeat Lula said he was eager to get back to work as soon as possible, and his medical team gave him a green light to do so, though they advised him to avoid long-haul international flights and exercise.
