- Story Text:From a "Minecraft" live action movie to Brad Pitt's Formula One racing drama, a spate of new films are expected in 2025. Below is a list of scheduled releases for the first half of the year, broken down by month.
January:
"Den of Thieves 2: Pantera" - The sequel to 2018 action crime drama "Den of Thieves" sees Gerard Butler and O'Shea Jackson Jr. return as detective Nick "Big Nick" O'Brien and robber Donnie Wilson respectively. It follows the events from the first film with O'Brien tracking down Wilson who has fled to Europe.
"Wolf Man" - Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner star in this horror film, a reboot of the 1941 movie of the same name. Abbott and Garner play married couple Blake and Charlotte who move to Blake's childhood home. One night, Blake is clawed by a werewolf and his transformation endangers his family.
"Companion" - Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher star in the psychological thriller, described as "a new kind of love story".
"In The Grey" - Guy Ritchie's action thriller stars Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza Gonzalez. It follows two extraction specialists trying to come up with an escape route for a female negotiator.
February:
"Captain America: Brave New World" - Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson, who has taken up the Captain America mantle, finds himself thrust into an international incident in the superhero movie. The film also stars Harrison Ford and Liv Tyler.
"Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy" - Renee Zellweger returns as the bumbling Bridget Jones, now a widow and single mother, in the fourth instalment of the film series. The movie stars Leo Woodall as a new younger love interest for Bridget and Hugh Grant returns as her former lover Daniel.
"Last Breath" - Starring Woody Harrelson and Cliff Curtis, the film tells the real life story of divers trying to rescue their crew mate trapped in the ocean.
March:
"Sinners" - The horror film follows twin brothers Elijah and Elias, played by Michael B. Jordan, as they return to their home town with hopes to start afresh only to find something evil instead. Jack O'Connell and Hailee Steinfeld also star.
"Black Bag" - Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett star in this spy drama directed by Steven Soderbergh. Other cast members include Pierce Brosnan, Marisa Abela, Rene-Jean Page and Naomie Harris.
"Snow White" - Disney's live action remake of its 1937 animation stars Rachel Zegler as the titular Snow White. Gal Gadot plays the Evil Queen.
"Alto Knights" - Robert De Niro and Cosmo Jarvis star in this biographical crime drama about rival mob bosses. De Niro plays the dual role of the competing bosses.
April:
"A Minecraft Movie" - A live-action film based on the video games sees four misfits pulled through a portal into a cubic world. Jack Black, Emma Myers and Jason Momoa star.
"Mickey 17" - Robert Pattinson dies and comes back to life again and again in Bong Joon Ho's new film, the hotly-anticipated follow-up to the director's Oscar-winning "Parasite". The movie also stars Toni Collette, Naomi Ackie, Mark Ruffalo and Steven Yeun.
May:
"Thunderbolts*" - Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour and Rachel Weisz star in the superhero movie about a group of villains being recruited for a government mission.
"Lilo & Stich" - Hannah Waddingham, Sydney Agudong and Billy Magnussen star in the live-action remake of the Disney animation.
"Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning" - Tom Cruise returns as agent Ethan Hunt in the eight instalment in the action spy "Mission: Impossible" series. The film follows on from 2023's "Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One".
"Karate Kid: Legends" - The sixth film in the martial arts drama franchise with Ralph Macchio reprising his role as Daniel and Jackie Chan returning as Mr Han. In the movie, Daniel arrives in Beijing to work with Mr Han who has a new protege.
June:
"Ballerina" - Ana de Armas leads the action thriller, the fifth film in the "John Wick" franchise.
The movie is set between "Parabellum" and "Chapter 4" in which de Armas' ballerina-assassin Eve sets out to avenge the death of her father.
"Elio" - The Pixar animation sees an alien-obsessed Elio embark on an inter-galatic mission as he is transported to the Communiverse. Yonas Kibreab voices Elio with Zoe Saldana and Jameela Jamil also among the cast.
"How to Train Your Dragon" - The live-action remake of the 2010 DreamWorks Animation film follows a young Viking as he befriends a dragon. The movies stars Mason Thames, Nico Parker, and Nick Frost, with Gerard Butler reprising the role of Stoick the Vast from the animated films.
"28 Years Later" - Filmmaker Danny Boyle returns with the third apocalyptic outing "28 Years Later", the latest in the zombie horror franchise that began in 2002 with "28 Days Later", followed by "28 Weeks Later" in 2007.
Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes and "28 Days Later" alumni Cillian Murphy, the movie follows survivors living on a heavily defended island separated from the infected mainland. When one of the group leaves on a mission, he learns more about the horrors of the fallout of the mysterious virus that escaped a biological weapons laboratory and spread throughout London years earlier.
"M3GAN 2.0" - The film is a sequel to the hit 2022 horror "M3GAN", about an artificially intelligent doll who attacks anyone she sees as threatening to her human companion, Cady.
Alison Williams and Violet McGraw return as aunt and niece Gemma and Cady in the movie.
"F1" - Brad Pitt's Formula One drama follows a former driver who comes out of retirement to mentor a young prodigy. The movie also stars Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon and Damson Idris.
