- Story Text: A Syrian Air plane took off on Wednesday (December 18) from Damascus International Airport, bound for Aleppo, in the first domestic flight after the ousting of Syria's Bashar al-Assad.
"All staff are ready to provide the services, the planes are ready and we are working on (resuming) international flights after we finish some operational procedures," said director of internal flights at the airport Saad Kheir Beik.
Assad was ousted on Dec. 8 by insurgent forces led by the Islamist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
The world is carefully watching to see if Syria's new rulers can stabilise the country and avoid unleashing violent revenge, after a 13-year civil war fought along sectarian and ethnic lines.
