- Story Text: Residents living in Carterpuri, an Indian village named after former United States President Jimmy Carter, remembered his visit to the village following his death on Monday (December 30).
Former President Carter visited the village with his wife, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter back in 1978 and promised to turn it into a model village.
Earlier known as Daulatpur-Nasirabad, the village's name was changed to Carterpuri after the former president's visit. During his India visit in January 1978, Carter included this village in his itinerary.
It was in this village that his mother, Lady Lillian Gordy Carter, lived while working with Christian missionaries.
Carter, who as president brokered peace between Israel and Egypt and later received the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian work, died at the age of 100. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
