Archival footage of a remote village in India's northern state of Haryana, which U.S. President Jimmy Carter promised to make it a model village during his visit in 1978.
After his visit, the residents named their village after Carter, from Daulatpur-Nasirabad to Carterpuri. Accompanied by his wife Rossalyn, Carter had included this village in his itinerary when he visited India in January 1978.
It was in this village that his mother, Lady Lillian Gordy Carter, lived while working with Christian missionaries.
Carter, who as president brokered peace between Israel and Egypt and later received the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian work, died at age 100 on Sunday (December 30). - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
