- Story Text:London Zoo conducted its annual stocktake on Friday (January 3), counting more than 10,000 animals that they care for.
Penguins, ring-tailed lemurs, and squirrel monkeys were amongst the animals being assembled and tallied up.
The zoo had a busy and successful 2024 according to Lead Primate Zookeeper, Glynn Hennessy, with new additions including two baby gorillas and 11 penguin chicks.
At the beginning of 2024 gorilla mothers Mjukuu and Effie gave birth to their respective daughters Juno and Venus who are now approaching their first birthday.
Zookeepers are also tasked with counting the smaller invertebrates, which can mean the stocktake can take nearly a week to be fully completed.
