- Story Text: German carmaker BMW unveiled on Tuesday (January 7) its new Panoramic iDrive user interface that will hit the market late 2025 and be the standard dashboard display in every new model it produces.
The Munich-based company made the announcement at CES 2025, a major annual tech conference in Las Vegas, where it recruited American actor and comedian Tim Meadows to make the introduction with BMW executives.
Frank Weber, chief development officer at BMW AG, originally played it coy when asked by Meadows to “spill the tea” about the new reveal.
“It's about the Neue Klasse. Everything with us is about the Neue Klasse. We are creating nothing less than the next ultimate, ultimate driving machine," Weber said.
"All right, come on. You call that spilling the tea today?" Meadows joked.
The Neue Klasse is BMW’s new electric vehicle line due to launch this year. The new Panoramic iDrive interface will debut in that line.
The interface features four key elements that are all interconnected, Weber said.
“First, the revolutionary panoramic vision. The huge pillar to pillar head up display reimagines the iconic BMW driver orientation. Second, the all new central display that combines classic BMW aesthetics with perfect ergonomics with an intuitive touch interface. Third, on top of the panoramic vision comes the new 3D head up display exclusively for integrated guidance information and with a visualization for highly automated driving. And finally, the newly designed multi-function steering wheel with simple controls and quick response to touch. All of this adds up to a unique hands on the wheel, eyes on the road experience," Weber said.
The company also showed off its BMW intelligent personal assistant, which can help find directions as well as change driving modes for the vehicle, including sport mode.
“It is a truly holistic experience. A combination of sound light and a more vibrant interface design, as you just saw," said Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design.
CES 2025, formerly known as the Consumer Electronics Show, runs Jan. 7-10 and is used to debut products ranging from new automotive technology to quirky gadgets, as well showing new ways to use artificial intelligence.
