- Story Text: In a story of self-discovery and reinvention, Pamela Anderson reveals her deep connection to her role in the forthcoming film, “The Last Showgirl.”
“It's taken me a long time to find a project like this, or a project like this to find me,” she said, highlighting her profound connection to the story.
Penned by Kate Gersten over a decade ago, the narrative delves into the hidden world behind the lights of Las Vegas. Anderson brings to life the character of Shelley, a 50-year-old dancer compelled to transform herself when the iconic floor show she's part of abruptly closes after a 30-year reign on the Strip.
Director Gia Coppola described the film as a beautiful mother/daughter story.
“It's also a story about the sort of family that you create in the work environment, which I relate to so much in making movies. All in this backdrop of, of Las Vegas, which is a city that I've always wanted to tell a story.”
The film’s supporting cast includes Dave Bautista and Jamie Lee Curtis. Interestingly, Anderson nearly missed out on this challenging role, as she revealed, “The script actually got sent to an old agent who turned it down. And then my son found out about it.”
Curtis, who portrays a cocktail waitress and Shelley's closest confidante in the movie, openly admitted that Anderson was her main motivation to join the project.
“For me, the draw was Pam. I knew what she was going to do. I knew it,” Curtis said.
In an attempt to shift attention towards the film and the performances, Anderson chose to promote the film makeup-free. However, this experiment garnered more attention than anticipated, leading Anderson to question, “Why is it always a part of the headline?”
“I said, the novelty has had to wear off. I mean, why is it always a part of the headline? You know, you really I felt like I wanted to, you know, peel myself back and pare back because I was really, I'm still in the process of really getting to know myself on my own and remember who I am.”
“The Last Showgirl” is set to hit U.S. theaters on January 8th.
