- Story Text: King Khaled bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia arrived in Islamabad on Sunday (10 October) to start a six day state visit of Pakistan. He was accompanied by the Minister of Defence and Aviation, Prince bin Abdul Aziz; Prince Saud al Faisal the Minister for Foreign Affairs; Dr. Rachad Pharaon, the King's special adviser and other high ranking dignitaries.
SYNOPSIS: Fighter planes of the Pakistan Air Force escorted the King's plane into Islamabad airport and a 21-gun salute heralded his arrival. When King Khaled and his party disembarked from their aircraft they were welcomed by Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and President Fazal Elahi Chaudhry. Pakistan made a lot of elaborate preparations to welcome the King and officials said the visit would do much to strengthen the ties between the two Moslem nations. All the leaders of the armed forces were there to greet the King.
In true ceremonial manner the King was invited to inspect the guard of honour and afterwards he watched an impressive march past by servicemen.
The day after he arrived King Khaled was scheduled to start a series of talks with Prime Minister Bhutto expected to result in increased Saudi financial aid for Pakistan. Diplomatic sources said Pakistan wants to persuade Saudi Arabia to help to persuade Saudi Arabia to help to pay for the purchase of about 100 A-Seven fighter bombers from the United States. The setting up of a Pakistan arms industry with Arab money and French technology is also expected to be discussed. Official sources said Pakistan has already received an interest-free loan of 100 million dollars and another soft loan of 30 million dollars from Saudi Arabia for development projects.
