- Story Text: Visiting King Faisal of Saudi Arabia and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat discussed for two hours on Sunday (13 May) their political, economic and military strategy aimed at recovering the Arab territories seized by Israel during the 1967 war.
King Faisal, accompanied by Saudi Arabia's Defence and Aviation Minister, Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz, arrived in Cairo, Egypt, the day before (12 May) for two-day of official talks.
No officials statement was released following Sunday's talks at the Kubbeh Republican Palace. But the weekly political review, "rose Al Youssef", indicated that Saudi Arabia might use oil as a weapon for pressure to and the present Middle East crisis.
The magazine said that Saudi Arabia has assured the United States that although it would continue to maintain the outflow of oil at its present rate, without any deliberate slowdown or stoppage, it was not prepared to step up its production to help ease the present American energy crisis unless the United States ???eciprocated and changed its policy of "complete bias in favour of israel".
Reuters also reports that King Faisal and President Sadat probably discussed means of reactivating Jordan's eastern front with Israel.
Saudi Arabia has good relations with Jordan's King Hussein, and it was thought that the King might be able to persuade the Jordanian government to take part in any future military plans against Israel. King Hussein has so far resisted this.
King Faisal is due to fly to Parla on Monday (May 14) on a week-long state visit to France and talks with President George Pompidou and other French officials. The Middle East situation and the possible purchase of French arms will figure in their talks.
