- Story Text: King Faisal of Saudi Arabia promised he would personally work for closer co-operation with Mauritania. He made the promise during his four-day visit to the country, which began on Thursday 23 November.
A record crowd greeted the King of Nouakchott airport, where he was welcomed by the Head of State, Moktar Ould Daddah.
At a dinner both leaders stressed the historical links between their countries, and also called for an end to Israeli "expansionism" in the Middle East. King Faisal said Zionism was responsible for "all the agitation" in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. He also regretted that Spain, which he regarded as a traditional friend of Arab nations, continued its presence in the Spanish Sahara.
