- Story Text: A four-oman Saudi Arabian delegation from the world Muslim League arrived at Entebbe Airport near Kampala in Uganda on Sunday (May 23). The delegation, headed by Sheikh Mohammed Al-Sawaff, is staying for one week and will visit Muslim institutions throughout the country.
They were met at the airport by the Chief Kadi of Uganda, Sheikh Abdulzake Matovu, the Saudi Arabian Ambassador Mr. Hababi, and members of the Ugandan Muslim Council.
Saudi Arabia has given loans of moire than three million pounds sterling in recent months, and even greeter amounts are expected. On a visit to Ugandan November 1972, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia promised funds to finish a half-completed military barracks. An Israeli firm was engaged in constructing it when General Amin ordered all Israelis out of the country.
Saudi Arabia has recently vastly increased her own military resource by signing defence contracts with the British and French governments, thus increasing her capabilities of giving military aid to friendly countries. Uganda has been trying to improve its under-equipped army and Saudi Arabia is one country that has already shown a willingness to help.
The tour of the Muslim League representatives is the latest in a series of events underlining Uganda's improving relations with the Arab world at the expense of relations with Israel.
