- Story Text: Elvis revellers arrived in the Australian rural town of Parkes to attend the iconic Parkes Elvis Festival on Thursday (January 9), a day after what would have been the King's 90th birthday.
With hundreds of people onboard dressed in their best jumpsuits and lacquered wigs, people waiting on the platform clapped and cheered as the train pulled into the station.
"The entire world wants to be at Parkes and all roads lead to Parkes this weekend. Yesterday Elvis would have been 90 years old, 90 years young, his spirit lives on," Nationals Party member for Riverina Michael McCormack told Reuters.
In keeping with the festival's 2025 theme which is Elvis's 1967 film "Easy Come Easy Go", many not only donned jump-suits and wigs but sailor-inspired outfits.
"Party time, great time. It's like walking into another world when you hit the station here at Parkes. Yeah, we just love it, love it," said Gail Goulding.
This year's festival will end on Sunday (January 12) with a street parade on Saturday (January 11).
