- Story Text: After a day of resupplying and practicing on the U.S.
aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, the fighter jets resumed
daylight missions on Afghanistan.
Fighter jets resumed daylight missions on Saturday
(October 13) from the the USS Carl Vinson circling off
Pakistan in the northern Arabian Sea, carrying deadly cluster
bombs for use against tanks and enemy personnel in
Afghanistan.
Aboard the USS Carl Vinson, officers said air superiority
was allowing U.S. planes to drop deadly cluster bombs against
tanks and enemy forces.
Planes carried heavy munitions, including GPS and laser
guided smart bombs, both designed to hit targets with pinpoint
accuracy.
Friday (October 12) was used as a day to rest, resupply,
refuel and practice. A resupplying ship called the USS Niagara
Falls had a helicopter on board that delivered all the goods.
Heavily armed F18 and F14 aircraft have been taking off
from the Carl Vinson and from the USS enterprise for the past
week as the US air campaign against targets in Afghanistan
continued.
On the USS Carl Vinson as on the USS Enterprise the US
flag was clearly visible. The flag became a symbol of American
pride and defiance following the September 11 attacks in which
hijacked planes rammed into the World Trade Centre towers in
New York and a wing of the Pentagon near Washington.
