- Story Text: Troops of the South Arabian army yesterday (Thursday) stopped bitter fighting between two rival Arab Nationalist groups for the control of a key village, Dar Saad, without firing a shot.
At the same time in Aden, members of the Front for the Liberation of South Yemen (FLOSY) are alleged to have started a fire which destroyed the Aidrus market.
FLOSY called a one-day strike yesterday for a show of strength against the National Liberation Front (NLF). But in Aden it was a day of gun battles, with four Arabs killed and 10 people wounded in fighting between Nationalists and British troops. Four British soldiers were among the wounded.
South Arabian troops in armoured cars moved into Dar Saad which lies just across the border with Lahij state. They called on the inhabitants to stop fighting and told them that the army controlled the surrounding area.
The leader of the army operation, Lieutenant Colonel Awadh Calah Bin Abdulla, was cheered loudly by a big crowd which gathered outside the town's wrecked police station.
In Aden itself, the Aidrus market was completely destroyed before firemen could tackle the flames. Several goats died in the blaze but no market people were injured.
