  • Story Text: Migrants faced freezing temperatures in Mexico's northern border city Ciudad Juarez while awaiting the opportunity to cross into the United States.
    A Venezuelan migrant told Reuters on Thursday (January 9) that he wished U.S. President-elect Donald Trump would "pay attention" to their struggles, rather than focusing on renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America.
    "We’re not used to the cold, so it’s really tough," he added.
    Another Venezuelan migrant, Luis Alonso Martinez, said many migrants consider returning to their countries.
    "We want to reach migration but we can’t because they won’t let us, and because of Donald Trump," he told Reuters.
    There's uncertainty among migrants ahead of Trump's promise to crack down on immigration, fearful it will now become harder to gain asylum.
    Trump has pledged tougher border controls and immigration enforcement and to launch a mass deportation operation on his first day as president.
    Footage showed migrants gathering around a campfire to keep warm during a night of cold temperatures.
