- Story Text: Thousands descended on Las Vegas on Tuesday (January 7) as CES 2025, the world's largest technology showcase, officially opened its doors.
With the latest innovations in everything from TVs and cars to artificial intelligence (AI) and gaming, tech enthusiasts from around the world have a lot to discover.
"It's really exciting to be here seeing so many zillions of booths over here from different parts of the world and the products and also meeting all the business leaders of the industry leaders over here and discussing with them," said Prajit Datta, a 31-year-old engineer from Gothenburg, Sweden, who was attending his first CES.
"CES is a huge show, and it's my first time here. Yeah, I'm from Brazil, so it's awesome. I have no words to describe it," added 38-year-old Christian Dantas Telles, a tech industry worker.
CES is one of the largest gatherings of manufacturers, analysts and suppliers in the United States and comes days before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, who has pledged big tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, China and other U.S. trading partners. This has sparked concerns about spiralling costs for businesses as well as consumers.
CES 2025, formerly known as the Consumer Electronics Show, runs from Jan. 7-10 and is used to debut products ranging from new automotive technology to quirky gadgets, as well showing new ways to use AI.
While AI will still be the buzzword on the show floor, the issue of tariffs will be top-of-mind for many in policy sessions, press conferences and on the sidelines.
In addition to tariffs, Trump has said he plans to begin rescinding policies meant to promote the adoption of EVs.
