- Story Text: Soccer star David Beckham is keeping an eye on the upcoming Olympics and said that he wants to be involved, either as a player or a coach...but preferably as a player.
"No, what I said was that I would love to be involved," explained Beckham.
"I loved to be playing in it, coaching it. I've always said there is nothing else that interest me. I would love to be involved in it in someway in my hometown. Playing is what I would love to be involed in, but it is a long time till then."
The former captain of the English soccer team, who's under contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy until the end of this year, believes he could still make a contribution for the home team when London hosts the summer Olympics in 2012.
In the meantime, Beckham and his teammates are preparing for an upcoming match against Major League Soccer rival the New York Red Bulls this weekend. The Galaxy are hoping to rebound from their most recent performance that saw them drop a 2-1 decision to Dallas, a match that Beckham rushed back from attending the royal wedding to play in.
"Yeah, it was great for our country to have a royal wedding like that," explained Beckham, who mingled with monarchs and politicians during the ceremony. "It was very traditional, very British, done in such an amazing beautiful way, very romantic and an amazing day for our country and for the rest of the world."
While the Beckhams enjoyed their royal invite, they're not holding out for dinner reservations when Prince William and his new wife Catherine visit the United States in July at the end of their first official foreign trip as a married couple.
"No, I am sure they will be very busy," joked Beckham. "It's official business, but I am sure they will enjoy the weather." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
